Old habits take time to change . A survey shows that people who play console games still prefer to have a physical media for their games - although gradually download services on most platforms.
The British study asked players on Xbox , Wii and PlayStation on their preferences. The entire 64 percent said they would prefer to buy games if they are on a physical disk rather than a digital copy .
Players are therefore different from other media consumers. For example, only 45 percent replied that the respondents that they prefer to buy music on physical discs rather than, say digital downloads.
A Transformation Underway
One should not take the study as proof that gamers are generally swear by the old-fashioned forms of distribution. For example, game service Steam great success at the moment. It now works on both Mac and PC.
55 percent of respondents said indeed they could be persuaded to download their game if they were cheaper. 27 percent would download their games if it meant that they could get their hands on new titles faster than normal.
Investigation has focused exclusively on console , and in this part of the industry there has long been a tradition of exchange used games. It is inherently difficult to do if the games exclusively available digitally. At Sony's launch of the new handheld computer was some Danish negotiators quick to drop to negotiate PSP Go, because all games must be downloaded from the web.
